Quilt Guild

Guys, yesterday was the Local Quilt guild. I LOVE it there. I'm the youngest and I do generally have to take my 3yo son with me, but its still great. In fact, for some reason, my son (who is SO done with taking naps) fell asleep at the guild. ...and what do ya know, we had plenty of quilts to cover him...

Anyway I have to show you the blocks for the 2009 Spring Quilt Block Swap. The blocks are due later, but the ladies in my guild already brought in 6 sets!

I'm going to be adding that to our flickr group shortly. They're lookin really good! I can't wait to see all the others, from the online world come through.

Now back to the guild- This month's lotto block* was a Mardi Gras theme. We have about 23 members in our guild and get this- there were 30 total blocks. This is the only guild I've been in, ever, where lotto block was SO popular. One lady won ALL of them. This coming month's block is a Hawaiian themed block. Its a raw edge applique, though- so its not as tough as a true Hawaiian block.
That baby is 18" big. Even if only 4 or 6 people join this lotto in March- that will still yield a BIG top.

And lastly, I thought this was very cool, one of our members presented a challenge. The challenge was to make ONE fabric yo-yo* with red fabric, thread and needle, which she provided. The rules were to bring back a finished yo-yo, either finished or finished into something else, it didn't matter. Then- they'd be drawing names from the "who finished it" pile to win a prize. Let me show you what I did with my little red yo-yo.

Its a little greeting card. I like it. (looks better in person) Its simple and sewn. AND useful. So that's my finished item.

I do hope I win those blocks, but I've got 4 weeks to wait. =) Yes, I came home and made next month's block RIGHT after the guild meeting. Seriously, who does that???

*Lotto Blocks are a quilt block that each guild member makes. You make as many blocks as you'd like to have your name entered- then if your name is drawn, you win ALL of them. The Lotto Blocks generally have a theme or coordinating element each month.

*Yo-Yo's are gathered fabric circles. The raw edges are concealed and they can be a range of sizes. They add texture to quilts and dimension to projects. You should google them to see more.

Awe man, I was hoping you were going to be showing the Mardi Gras themed quilts. That would be so awesome to see--especially for folks like me that live in Mardi Gras country and we're in the heart of Mardi Gras parades and festivities! Love the blocks your quilt guild has already finished. They look great! ~Shelly~
