The judged show at the Houston Quilt Festival is the BIG ENCHILADA. The winner of the show gets $10,000. I don't know about you, but that seems like a really really good prize for a quilt.
This year's winner was Sharon Schamber's Mystique.
Take a minute to enlarge the photo, by clicking on it. It's got everything- Piecing, applique, trapunto, depth and HOLES! Yes, those black "borders" are actually ribbon weaving, open areas which makes this quilt so much more impressive. I was absolutely stunned. So were the judges, evidently. I'm sure you'll see more pictures around the web of this lovely quilt. I"m thrilled to have seen it in person.
